Just A Rant for the Day

When I was in the HR today, I was not really expecting to get the position that I applied for a transfer. I got the hunch yesterday!

Since Monday, I was waiting for an email coming from HR. They usually sent an email to the applicants whether they will hire or the position is filled in. The scenario was, I applied the Gift Shop Clerk (full time) last Sunday. To my dismay, I found out only yesterday that my application was not successfully submitted. And since I was awake at 1 AM, I sent it out anyway. I know my submission was late! At 9 AM, I got an email from HR that I should apply in person. And so, I was there at 7:30 AM after my 8 hours of tiring job.

Was glad that Mr. Santa Claus was there, LOL. He is a "Sunshine" to everybody at work. We talk about his hobby playing the game of World of Warcraft while waiting for the in charge who I need to see.

Anyway, I got an email from HR today too, informing me that the position was filled already. Well, I have no issue with that. I knew that they already hired someone yesterday because the posting was gone when I report to work.

BUT, this really bothered me! While I was there in the office, they asked me if I have any experienced handling a cash register and when I said NO; one lady automatically said, that made me not qualified for the position of a Gift Shop Clerk.

I went home in deep thought! If they can not hire me as a clerk in gift shop then, maybe I do not see myself ever hired in another higher position ever. I was turn down because I do not have the EXPERIENCE handling money in the cash register. Don't they give trainings?

By the way, the salary of that job is a dollar lower than what I have at present. I applied because I wanted to explore the other department.

With this experience, I do not see my future in this establishment. If they can't transfer me in this EASY POSITION because I lack experience, they will never transfer me in any position in the future. I might as well move on....

Tuna Sandwich

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of HealthyTuna.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

Today, my husband made a quick and easy meal using a healthy tuna recipe. If you open your pantry, I bet you have a tuna so; make use of it now. Make a healthy meal for your family by this recipe which you can prepare for less than 10 minutes. You need chopped onions, chopped fresh garlic, mayonnaise and salt to taste. Mix all ingredients together and set aside. Make a toast and spread the tuna to the toasted bread and sliced it diagonally for presentation. This is how I want my tuna sandwich and it taste very delicious.

Tuna can help fight heart disease which is one of America's number one killer diseases. For pregnant women, eating tuna regularly can help boost baby's brain and this study is scientifically proven. Fish intake of mothers during pregnancy helps the early child development of the baby in their womb. Seafood's can help sharpen an aging mind too. According to the study, total intake of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer disease. With all these scientific studies, make tuna as part of your healthy meal preparation for your family.

Okay, SAINTS is my team this year and I am hoping they will win the Superbowl. I know the COLTS is really unbeatable. But, if the Saints will play strong as what they showed with the Vikings, there is a big chance. February 7 is a big day and yes, my workplace will let us wear our jersey on that day. I am so excited! Who dat!

Hair Cut Day

Back home, it is so easy to find a barber. My cousin Christopher is a gifted barber and so; he service clients in their home at a minimal amount. Sometimes, it's FREE. It is different here in the US. You will spend as much as $25 to get a barber cut. A year ago, my husband asked me to cut his hair. Without experience and just for an experiment, I decided to cut his hair to save 25 bucks. That's how I became a barber....bow!LOL!
Today, my first customer (LOL) is my father-in-law and we used our kitchen as my makeshift barber shop, reason: freezing cold outside, lol. Anyway, I took a picture to show you guys how messy his hair was.
In less than 30 minutes, here it is. He is 90 years old but, looks like 50 after the hair cut, hahaha. How's that? The owner of this messy hair is my dearest husband, my second customer for the day!Wooo!
He got long and wavy hair that has a mind of its own. Curly and wavy type of hair tend to sway on its own and hard manage when you cut it.
After few minutes of nipping, my Conair hair cutting tool helper did magic.
He looks younger than I am, hehehe.
Here is the look after!

APO Hiking Society is Winding Down

Today, I visited the Website of Jim Paredes of Apo Hiking Society. I found his Website when I tried to Google about 1986 EDSA Revolution in the Philippines a year ago. On that day, all I did was read his posts whole day. I gathered so many insights and reflections in every thoughts he posted. Apo Hiking Society is an extra ordinary group that will always be in the hearts of Filipino.
*******
As a Recap: The Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society, popularly known as Apo Hiking Society is a Filipino musical group who started in 1969 at the the Ateneo de Manila high school. The original members were:
  • Lito de Joya
  • Sonny Santiago
  • Gus Cosio
  • Renato Garcia
  • Chito Kintanar
  • Kenny Barton
  • Bruce Brown
  • Butch Dans
  • Kinjo Sawada
  • Ric Segreto
  • Goff Macaraeg
  • Doden Besa
  • Jim Paredes
  • and Boboy Garrovillo.
  • Danny Javier joined the group.
The name APO was in reference to the paralytic Philippine revolutionary intellectual and hero, Apolinario Mabini. "Apo" is also an Ilocano term for a wise man. After graduation, the majority of its members left to pursue individual careers, with only three members remaining: Jim Paredes, Boboy Garovillo and Danny Javier.

Apo has become the principal adherent of the Original Pilipino Music (OPM). The Apo also became involved in record production, talent management and organizing artists under the "Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit" or O.P.M. which means "Organization of Philippine Singers/musicians". The group expanded its activities into establishing and furthering the careers of new OPM artists in the Philippines. - source: wikipedia.org

******
Apo Hiking Society had so far released 22 albums and continues to remain active at present time. Last December 16, 2009, the APO Hiking Society announced that they are already retiring as a group. They will be performing series of shows that will start on February 14, 2010 and will end on May. The Saints Won

The most awaited game of the SAINTS vs CARDINALS dated January 16,2010 finally over with a BANG! I was so glad that Saints finally scored a high 45 over 14 for Cardinals. The WHO DAT NATION is ready to party at New Orleans. They say that if Saints won today's game, the Mardi Gras in New Orleans will start tonight. I watched the game on and off because the schedule of the game is my nap time. I need it because my work is from 11 in the evening to 7:30 in the morning. Anyway, the game was so exciting that I screamed a lot. Tonight, I am so excited and proud wearing my Saints Jersey at work.

Business Venture

My husband filed an early retirement from his work in Orlando and focuses his time to his private business. I stayed home and helped him with some paperwork's which he needed for his clients. Things turned a detour when we move from Orlando to his hometown to be with his father. In here, life is much simpler and the lifestyle of the people is a lot less complicated. My husband can not apply his business here since this state governs with another law. He was thinking to venture another business which this place needed. He is still in a dilemma right now while checking what's best for this place. It would have been much easier if he can apply his profession here but, that is impossible. He plans to consult from a knowledgeable person that would give him idea on what business is good for this place. Just like a wyoming registered agent, the brains behind this company can help others to start a corporation. Well, my husband just needs to open a small business and I guess in no time, he will have an idea. I fully support his plan to at least use his skills in providing a better service for the people in this place. Whatever business he will venture in the next couple of months, I will be happy to stand by his side.

Just Lazy

I was having my lazy day today which I enjoyed doing. I only have two days day off and my "graveyard shift" work schedule is driving me insane. It is so hard to adjust that days would be my nights and vice versa. I am well adjusted alright but, I do wish at times that I can sleep 8 hours during the night and do my job in the morning. Oh, well...I am still trying to get a job in a day shift. If there is available, I will surely grab it. Since yesterday, all I did was update my Facebook account and post some pictures. I used it as back-up too, double purpose. I just want to be lazy today, that's all I want for now.

Happy Birthday & Happy Wedding Anniversary Cookie

True friends are rare and I am so lucky to have one since College days. Cookie is a down to earth person. Moody ( opppss, lol ) , nice Soprano voice, loves the camera, sassy and sosy :-) and very level headed person. We are not the best buddies and we are not even close to the point that we giggle when Glen is around. She had her own best friends and I have my own buddies too. Yet, we just keep updating with what's going on with our lives. I was an Alto and she was a Soprano in our school's Glee Club. Remember those days Cookie Pie? LOL! Well, read this post HERE to know her LOVE STORY. Oh, read it please, you will fall in-love with the story.
Happy Birthday my friend! May God's blessings continue to shower in your family. I wish you good health, happy and contented life, more financial blessings and most of all LOVE. Happy 8th Wedding Anniversary too. May both of you continue to hold on tight to the marriage vows! Stay in love and happy!

Frozen Fountain

I was amazed when the water on our bird bath turned to ice yesterday. I am like a child who just mesmerized with the power of nature. click Here to see the bird bath at the backyard. My husband said that he will show me a thing that I will like better. Armed with my Blackberry phone, I took these pictures just an hour ago. I am thrilled I know but, I am also aware the negative impact of this cold snap to us.
This frozen fountain might be nice to look at but, there are people who see this as a "negative sign" that can bring danger to the community. With this Arctic Blast, the people who are directly affected are those who live on the streets.
The homeless people are taking refuge in shelters like the Salvation Army and Red Cross. They are provided with blanket and a place to keep them warm. There is one casualty in our city, a man found dead in his home with no heater and they found out that there is no gas in the propane tanks. Sad story really! I hope everyone will be safe.

Bird Bath: Frozen Water

We have an old bird bath at the backyard which we can see from the kitchen window. My husband told me that the water was frozen. I did not believe him. He challenge me to go outside and touch it. The weather today is 17 degrees, its below freezing. I grab my sweater and took the pictures.
It was indeed frozen! I tried to break it using a twig but, the ice has thickened. I stump my heel on the ice and here is the evidence - a frozen water in the bird bath, LOL!
I did wish that it will rain today so that we can have snow. But, if that happens, we will be having problems on the road . The rain that will fall on the ground will become ice and will be a danger to moving cars. So, I will not wish for rain anymore. I am okay that the weather is gorgeous and the sun is shining so bright.

Hairy Dog

I just took the picture of this dog because I remember HAPPY. Happy is a tiny dog of Barbara, a close friend who live in Orlando but she passed away last December. I am so worried with Happy because she is very close to Barbara. One time, I wanted to put a leash on her and she was crying and hiding at the back of Barbara asking her not to put on her leash. I was so fascinated with that incident because she thought that I will get her away from Barbara. I just told Happy that I will accompany her to pee at the backyard and she gladly came to me. When I open the door and return the leash on the side, she was so glad. As if telling me that she will behaved at the backyard. Well, we play the ball for few minutes and we return inside the house. I miss her. She is now taken care of by Barbara's friend. I know she is in good hands.

Mead Johnson, Maker of Enfamil, Loses Multi-Million Dollar False Advertising Case Against Store-Bran

This is a sponsored guest post written by a Press Release on behalf of PBM Products. Post powered by Sponzai.

GORDONSVILLE, VA., December 2 , 2009PBM Products, LLC, a leading infant formula company that supplies store-brand infant formulas to Walmart, Sam's Club, Target, Kroger, Walgreens, and other retailers, has received a favorable jury verdict and a $13.5 million damages award in its false advertising lawsuit against Mead Johnson & Co., the operating subsidiary of Mead Johnson Nutrition Company (NYSE: MJN) (“Mead Johnson”), the makers of the national-brand Enfamil® LIPIL® Infant Formula. Mead Johnson is 83 percent-owned by Bristol-Myers Squibb.

PBM’s lawsuit claimed that Mead Johnson engaged in false and misleading campaigns against PBM’s competing store-brand of infant formulas, suggesting they do not provide the same nutrition as Mead Johnson’s brands. PBM’s store-brand infant formulas cost up to 50 percent less than Enfamil® LIPIL®. The $13.5 million in damages awarded by the jury in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia is one of the largest damages awards ever for a false advertising case.

“This decision by a jury of the people confirms that Mead Johnson’s ads have been false in suggesting that there is a nutritional difference between our store-brand formula products and their products, when in fact the only major difference is price,” said PBM CEO Paul B. Manning. “Despite Mead Johnson’s scare tactics, parents are assured that PBM’s formula products are as high quality and nutritious as Mead Johnson’s.”

U.S. District Court Judge James R. Spencer issued his written rulings yesterday following the November 10th jury verdict. Judge Spencer’s written rulings permanently enjoined Mead Johnson from making any false statements concerning PBM's infant formula, including the claims Mead Johnson previously made in Enfamil advertising that "It may be tempting to try a less expensive store brand, but only Enfamil LIPIL is clinically proven to improve brain and eye development," and "there are plenty of other ways to save on baby expenses without cutting back on nutrition." The Court also ordered Mead Johnson to retrieve from the public domain all advertising or promotional materials containing these or any other false claims about PBM's store brand infant formula.

The details of the decision and the complaint are posted online in full at:

The nutritional supplements under examination in the case are two fats, DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and ARA (arachidonic acid), which Mead Johnson calls “LIPIL®” solely for marketing purposes and touts as promoting infant brain and eye development. PBM’s claim focused on Mead Johnson’s direct mailing to more than 1.6 million parents of an alarming blurry picture of a child’s cartoon duck next to a clear picture of the same image which suggested that anything other than the Enfamil LIPIL® blend of ingredients is inferior and will result in poor eye and brain development. Other parts of the false advertising campaign consist of statements that only Enfamil LIPIL has been proven to confer visual and mental benefits on infants, and store-brand formulas are a “cut-back in nutrition” compared to Enfamil.

PBM successfully argued that these advertisements were false and misleading especially since PBM store- brand infant formulas have the same nutrients at the same levels as Enfamil. PBM infant formulas are formulated to contain DHA and ARA, and are sourced from the same supplier in amounts which equal or exceed the DHA and ARA in Mead Johnson’s Enfamil LIPIL®.

This decision marks the third time PBM Products has sued Mead Johnson for false advertising claims. On the prior occasions Mead Johnson admitted that it made false claims about PBM’s products. It is also the first false advertising case to focus on the issue of DHA and ARA nutritional ingredients in formula, which were introduced into the market in 2003 and have become a staple in recent years by many brands as key components for infant development.

“This jury verdict should send a significant and clear message to Mead Johnson about the way it conducts marketing and advertising for its brands,” said Manning. “This lawsuit also demonstrates our complete commitment to defending our products and the valuable brands of our retail partners.”

“As a parent and supporter of children’s medical research, I take a personal responsibility in assuring our customers that the products we produce are healthy and nutritionally equivalent to brand names like Enfamil® LIPIL®. It is important, especially now, for parents to know that there are lower priced yet highly nutritious store-brand formulas that will provide the same benefit to their children as any national brand name formula product,” Manning added.

The U.S. infant formula market is estimated at $3.4 billion and the global market is estimated at $7.9 billion.

All of PBM’s formulas, and for that matter all of U.S. infant formulas, are subject to the exacting standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), pursuant to the Infant Formula Act of 1980. This legislation vested FDA with the authority to ensure that all infant formula products sold in the United States provide the necessary levels of identified nutrients required for the growth of healthy babies. For more information, visit this FDA link.

PBM Products was represented by the law firm Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel LLP. Partners from the firm’s advertising practice, Harold P. Weinberger and Jonathan M. Wagner in New York, led the team.

Making Music

I know how to play the guitar but, not the piano. I can only play the Do-Re-Mi chords and that's it. In the Philippines, I bought a portable organ but, I only practiced one song and can only master the chorus part of the song "People Alone" of Randy Crawford.
I guess its not too late to study and learn how to play the piano, huh? Well, my father-in-law only play the recorded music in his piano. Every time he play the recorded music, I sing-along to it. I really miss singing in the Church Choir and my Glee Club in College. Music is like a positive charge to life. Without it, routine activities are so draining. Here is one of my favorite song, hoping you like it too.

Take me along
I don't care where you have gone
And I don't have to know
Exactly where you're going

If you leave me behind
Then everything on your mind
Will turn to pictures of the word
We might have been

Chorus:
People alone may go very fast
But maybe not so far
Playing along is still solitaire...
Remember
People alone may reach for a love
But only half as well
People alone may seem satisfied
How can they tell?

If we are crossing the line
Where there's no yours and no mine
We'll find it easy to see
People should be together

People alone may go very fast
But maybe not so far
Playing along is still solitaire...
Remember
People alone may reach for a love
But only half as well
People alone may seem satisfied
How can they tell?

Take me along
Let's not be people alone
I'm on your mind
So please don't leave me behind
Crossing the line
Where there's no yours and no mine

Peter Anderson Festival Dispaly

One of the displays in the Peter Anderson Festival which was held few months ago. This pottery display attracts the buyers because of it's unique designs and color combination. I love the design of crab which was "embossed" at the top of the platter. It looked like a live crab crawling on the plate.

Taking Care of my Van

I am searching online looking for car accessories. I just bought the old van of my sister-in law and I have to find car accessories to make me comfortable using my van. For a start, I need to buy a new seat cover and floor mats. In a month or two, I will probably change the color of my van. I wanted color white or red and my husband is already looking where to have it done. I need to buy a new steering wheel cover too and make it fancier than what it is right now. Tomorrow I decided to vacuum the carpet to make it clean. I am so excited to maintain its cleanliness. It would be hard for some but, I know I will keep it neat and tidy. I am so excited and looking forward in taking care of my van everyday.

Beautiful Sunrise

Every morning, I am just a lucky person to always see the beauty of God's creation. The weather today as I walked out from work was 38 degrees and the wind was picking up so, it was really chilly. I love my morning ride as we drove home and on the bridge, I love to see the morning sun shining on me. There were seagulls and Pelican flying nearby. The total scenario was truly awesome! I thank God for this wonderful day.
At 7:30 AM, the bridge looks like this every weekend. This is Highway 90 and if you travel the Gulf Coast from Florida to New Orleans, you will pass by this bridge and see all the casino in Biloxi area with amazing view!
On the bridge, there were few joggers because the weather was too chilly to be out in the open. I haven't tried walking on this bridge yet. I might try one day and show you the panoramic view below. Stay happy everyone! Do good things to others.
