"When my PC won't pick up the internet connection inside our house, I went panicked. That was two weeks ago. I realized that I do not miss the Philippines so much because I can access anything on the Web. I can talk to my mother 24 hours/day if we wanted to. Technology is really amazing nowadays. I talk to my family usually at eight in the morning and eight in the evening and seeing those makes me feel that I am not away from home.

When I talk to them, I move from one room to another. Then, the unexpected event happen, I accidentally hit the off button of my Compaq Presario. It took me three days figuring why I cannot connect. Blame it to my ignorance on IT. I am not familiarized with this PC and so, I blame it all to myself. Three days, I was using our land line or cell phone to call the Philippines. But, it is different when we saw each other on cam, on the Net. Though it cost us only 10 cents per minute (T-Mobile), I still missed them terribly.
I realized that I am so dependent on the Internet. I really felt the depression as if my world is different from my family back home. It feels like I was living in another planet. When I figure out why my PC won't connect with the help of my brother back home, I was so joyful. Seemed like a weird feeling to realize that I am so lost with out the Internet Connection. I do not know about your personal thoughts on this. As for me, I can't live with out the Internet Connection in my place."

  8. When Hurrican Gustav hit us here is LA just under a year ago, we were out of internet connection for a month. Elena and I took it hard not being able to talk to our family online and getting to see their face. The worst part was that we had lost all phone (landline and cell) connection as well so our family was watching the news there about us but we had no way of contacting them and letting them know we are ok. The internet is our lifeline to our family. Thank the Lord for Internet connection. BTW I love your illustration showing your power button, hahaha, that is really cool. God Bless Amy.
