Cory Aquino (1933 - 2009)

Corazon "Cory"Cojuangco Aquino was born on January 25, 1933 is the Seventh and First Female President of the Republic of the Philippines. She took the Presidency by the Controversial "Power of the People" which ended the 20 years of Marcos Regime.

I remember these moments. The EDSA Revolution and the Peaceful People Power happened in the Philippines 23 years ago and she was the symbol of Freedom. I was in high school when Political Turmoil was felt through out the nation. I remember vividly that since I cannot vote, I ask my mother to vote Cory Aquino as President. In the school, there were prayer rallies and our city joined the People Power Revolution. President Marcos was exciled and President Aquino took the Presidency.

Now, the symbol and heroine of Freedom died at the age of 76 from her Colon Cancer battle. She was born to a wealthy and politically prominent family. Her Educational Background are the following:
  • She enrolled in Ravenhill Academy in Philadelphia.
  • She finished her senior years at Notre Dame College in New York.
  • She entered Mount Saint Vincent College in New York City in 1949 and finished a Bachelor of Arts, major in French.
  • She took up LAW in Far Eastern University in the Philippines but, later married and devoted her life as a HOUSEWIFE and MOTHER.
What a story right? The turn of events happened when her husband, the young Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr was assassinated. A plain housewife became the President of the Philippines during the Snap Election.

A woman worth remembering. A woman worthy of admiration. Rest in Peace Tita Cory.

Our Own Triumphs and Struggles

I love music and one of the CD's that I love to play is about the triumphs and struggles of Charlie Chaplin. He is a man with great passion to his family, his music and film, peace and love of America. He was born in England, had a successful career in the US and died in Switzerland. His childhood was full of dream and later on accomplished in Hollywood. His life was full of controversy especially when he was seen as a threat and a Communist by the US and therefore exiled in Switzerland. One of the music he wrote was SMILE. Out of his sadness and heartaches, he composed this song. That musical show made me realized to keep on hoping and have faith in God. Brooke Shields made mention too that this is the all time favorite song of Michael Jackson.

Why I blog about these things? Because...
  • A friend of mine had a marital problem and they wanted a divorce. I listen to her pain.
  • Another friend had fallen out of love for her husband because of financial situation and family member interventions. I am her shocked-absorber.
  • A friend ignored the infidelity of his wife. Poor man.
  • A friend suffering from depression because of health problem of her family member. My heart goes out to her.
  • ..........so on and on....
Famous people or ordinary one's have problems, no question about that. We all have our own struggles and yet, when we feel that it's not going accordingly, we are lost! We thought that God has forsaken us. I have my own depression too. But, I take life very lightly. "THIS STORM WILL PASS", I convinced myself.

When things are alright, we are so triumphant! Have we taken the moment thanking God for the blessing? When we are in Joy, we sleep with a Smile on our face. But, have we really taken the time to talk to God for that happiness we felt? I bet not the way how, when we are in deep sadness. We usually cry to sleep at night and refused to accept the truth.

Whatever problems we have right now, PRAY! Seek for answers and do not lose HOPE. Accept the things that we have no control of. Acceptance of reality will lighten the burden. Have a good day Everyone.

Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it's breaking
When there are clouds in the sky
You'll get by.

If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through for you.

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear maybe ever so near
That's the time you must keep on trying

Smile, what's the use of crying
You'll find that life is still worth while

If you just smile.

Between Life and Death

Let me but live my life from year to year,
With forward face and unrelenting soul;
Not hurrying to, nor turning from the goal;
Not mourning for the things that disappear
In the dim past, nor holding back in fear
From what the future veils; but with a whole
And happy heart, that pays its toll
To Youth and Age, and travels on with cheer.
So let the way wind up the hill or down,
O'er rough or smooth, the journey will be joy,
Still seeking what I sought when but a boy,
New friendship, high adventure, and a crown,
My heart will keep the courage of the quest,
And hope the road's last turn will be the best.

Focus to Become a "Coffee"

My brother shared this article through Email and I wanted to pass this on to all of you. He loves to send this kind of thoughts to remind me the importance of life so I can re-focus which path to take. Sometimes we are so engrossed with the RUSH of everything around us. We need to listen to the words of wisdom to give light to our path and redirected to what is Good and Righteous.
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:

'If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive, and in some cases even hides what we drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups. And then you began eyeing each other’s cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee.'
God brews the coffee, not the cups.

Enjoy your coffee !!

'The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.'
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.

The Hunting: Movie Review

I do not like horror movies but, I was tempted to watch this film because this is based on a real-life story. If you don't like creepy flesh and the sight of blood makes you sick then, this movie is not for you to see. This is a new movie, 2009 released.
"In this supernatural thriller, the Campbell family's move to Connecticut takes a mysteriously dark turn when a series of shocking paranormal events reveals that their inviting new home is a former mortuary with a sordid past. Based on a true story, this terrifying tale stars Virginia Madsen and Martin Donovan as the well-meaning Campbell parents, Kyle Gallner as their cancer-stricken son and Elias Koteas as the enigmatic Rev. Nicholas Popescu."- Netflix
The acting of the main characters were good especially the son Kyle Gallner as Matt. This movie shows a haunted house theme with paranormal activities. The family decided to move to a cheaper property and desperate to finance the hospital bills for their son. It is a very realistic decision for the mother who is in denial thus, ignoring the history of the house. The story is really the battle of Matt towards the evil activity in the house and to protect his family. Watch it if you want to be scared. Rate: three point five stars

My painting job is doing great hehehe, I will be posting pictures soon. They say that Migraine Headaches occur without warnings. Usually, I am sensitive to light, smell and the sight of fried foods makes me vomit then, throbbing headache on one side my of head will start. I am not pregnant...hehehe. That is the usual experience that I have as warning signs. I do not like cigarette smoke and I guess, the smell of paint trigger my migraine too. When I woke up the next day, I just have it. Well, this is part my life especially before my MP dates. Women knows what I meant for MP. I have my medicine for this though. I am alright now. Thank you for the visit dear friends. I love all the comments. Thank you for brighten up my day always.

Weekend Party

My husband wanted to cut the watermelon. My Father in law invited our close family members to come Saturday for the slicing of the Watermelon...LOL! It turned out a good party and everyone had fun. I can only share what we prepare minus the faces of my family. This is really a sweet, juicy and crunchy watermelon. Yep...not seedless this time.
All we did was eat and talk about funny experiences, plans to pursue and just having chit-chat. Well, father-in-law just loves this moment. He loves to entertain and become the hosts. This is a huge watermelon bought at Grand Bay, Alabama and costs only $4. WOW PRICE!This is just half of the watermelon. We save it for those who wanted to have a "BH". Our family have this tradition hahaha, same with Filipino tradition huh? Considering that I am the only Filipino in the family.
Since my father in law invited everyone, my hubby and I checked the pantry and since we have this, I decided to bake a cake. It is easy to follow the directions on the box.
I have the following ingredients: cake mix, 1 and one-fourth cups water, one-third vegetable oil, three eggs.
Poured it into a cake pan. Oven was set to 350 degrees.
For icing on the top, I used this brand and it is white.
DONE!
I need to cool this cake for 10 minutes before adding the frosting. Since I used the round pan, I baked it to 34 minutes until the toothpick which I inserted comes out clean.
I am not a cookie monster...LOL! My husband is. But, this brand really appeal to my taste buds and so, I think I will become one in due time.
This is the second batch of the cookies. I made it smaller and I forgot to time it, LOL. But, I like it brown and crunchy. So this is good enough for me. Almost burned! LOL!
My preparation is just like this. No shape at all, too lazy huh?
The first batch of cookies which I bake was bigger that is why I made another set and make it smaller and crunchier.
In the oven at 350 degrees for 4 minutes.
My first baked cookies! Dang! Not a good one ...huh!
SHRIMP IN THE POT!
Drained the water.
Yummy shrimp!
With tomato sauce as dip.
Instead of expecting only water melon to eat, the shrimp was really a big surprise for them. The party was really good.

"When my PC won't pick up the internet connection inside our house, I went panicked. That was two weeks ago. I realized that I do not miss the Philippines so much because I can access anything on the Web. I can talk to my mother 24 hours/day if we wanted to. Technology is really amazing nowadays. I talk to my family usually at eight in the morning and eight in the evening and seeing those makes me feel that I am not away from home.

When I talk to them, I move from one room to another. Then, the unexpected event happen, I accidentally hit the off button of my Compaq Presario. It took me three days figuring why I cannot connect. Blame it to my ignorance on IT. I am not familiarized with this PC and so, I blame it all to myself. Three days, I was using our land line or cell phone to call the Philippines. But, it is different when we saw each other on cam, on the Net. Though it cost us only 10 cents per minute (T-Mobile), I still missed them terribly.
I realized that I am so dependent on the Internet. I really felt the depression as if my world is different from my family back home. It feels like I was living in another planet. When I figure out why my PC won't connect with the help of my brother back home, I was so joyful. Seemed like a weird feeling to realize that I am so lost with out the Internet Connection. I do not know about your personal thoughts on this. As for me, I can't live with out the Internet Connection in my place."

Undecided

At eight in the evening, Air Supply will be having a Concert at Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. I was planning to watch it with my husband but, he is not fond of their music. Look at Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock now, they aged but look the same yes? I love to listen them live on stage. These are my favorite songs from them:
  • Even the Nights Are Better
  • Here I am
  • The One That You Love
  • Every Woman in the World
  • All Out of Love
  • Even the Night Are Better
  • Two Less Lonely People in the World
There are still tickets available at the floor front in the reserved seating. I am still undecided at this time. It is not fun to watch alone. My hubby will just wait at the casino. He said, he rather play the slot machines out side the door than listen to a slow music. Well, they have 2 days concert anyway. I might watch it even without my husband.

My DXG 571V Silver Camcorder

I was looking for a new Camcorder since May and I just found one this week. This will record high-quality video in AVI format and captures still pictures up to 12MP image resolution. Very lightweight, easy to carry and perfect for my photography hobby. I love its design and the silver color. It has digital voice recorder and with the use of the USB port, I can easily upload photos and videos to my computer as usual. The price is not much really. So, this is good for me. According to the buyers review, this item deserved to have "twice the price for the quality" and all of them rate this item with five stars. The next few days I will be showing you pictures that I will be taking using my new camcorder.

Remembering Michael Jackson

I am not a fan of Michael Jackson but, I admire some of his songs. All the bad publicity and bad rumors, I really do not pay much attention because it is his life and I respect his personal side of the story. Let us not forget that this man has also a private life and not perfect. He was proven not guilty in court but he was still judged as guilty in the eyes of many.

Michael is no King. Michael is not a Role Model. Michael is not a Hero. But, Michael is a good father to his sons and daughter. Michael is a Friend to many. Michael is a good son. Michael loves his fans and no doubt, Michael is the king of Pop. Let us not forget that we are vulnerable to make bad decisions and we make mistakes in our lives. It is not you nor I to judge Michael but only God will.

These are the songs that I love and part of my life. You may say, how? When I was in College, our English teacher gave us a song to "dissect" and it was "Man in the Mirror". It took me a long time to study the lyrics and made me realized how brilliant Michael was. The song has the message of awareness of what's happening around us. That song conveys compassion.

I see the kids in the street
With not enough to eat
Who am I to be blind
Pretending not to see their needs

As a teenager, its amazing that his music influenced me when I was in love and in heartache. Songs such as "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "One Day in Your Life", "Ben", "I'll be there","Happy", "Music and Me", Ain't No Sunshine" and "She's Out of My Life" are just some of my favorite. When I am inspired I listen to his songs and when I have my first break-up, his songs somehow heal the heartaches. Funny but, the lyrics of his songs are meaningful and the melody are truly wonderful. Soothing to the ear and kept me relax and forget my troubles. Well, as simple as that but he touched my life that way.

Though Michael has "Gone Too Soon", his music will remain in my heart. I know that Michael will be "Happy" to know that some people see him as a person and not as a personality.

Are You Having a Marital Problem?

I am not qualified to talk about marital problems. I am still in my paper anniversary and so far, everything in my marriage is fine. Not perfect but fine. Though we disagree on many things, our marriage is Good and I can't ask for more. I am glad to have found each other.

Are you having a marital problem? This question just popped up in my mind after one of my friend texted me and says, she wanted a divorce. I was worried because she told me before that they are having problems. The warmth of love was vanished after only six months in marriage. They are on their third year now and I guess its not getting any better. The husband provide her material things she needs but, when it comes to sending money to her family back home, he was fed up.

I met the husband, he is a good person but, first time we talk, he immediately told me that he love to help the family of her wife but, he knows how to limit it. I wondered why he open up his concern to me considering it was our first meeting. As I said, he gave her material needs and I thought there will be no conflicts in their relationship. Guess not.

This is all I can say though:

On Money- every marriage have this problem. Husband and wife should sit and talk about what are their priorities. Both should share and give their part for the bills. I am saying this according to what's right and not because of culture. To avoid conflicts, share your blessings to the family.

Ignite the Romance- ohh well, you know what i mean. Know the physical needs of your beloved. Husband comes home so tired from work, wives should devote time to take care of him and vice versa. Learn the interests of your behalf. Give flowers, love notes, surprises and gifts. Watch a concert or movies together. Doing things which are out of the ordinary can give spark to your relationship.

The best thing that you can do if you have a marital problem is to initiate a pleasant Communication. Talk about the problem before the day is over. There is danger if you just let it pass by. One problem will pile up until you can no longer settle the problem. If it is worth saving for, save the marriage.

Marital Problem continues to exist when one does all the talking and the other won't listen. Communication can build bridges. It takes two to settle the problem and always respect the decision of one another. Get advice from your parents, siblings and friends that you trusted. Do not stress yourself. Make your life worth living for.

*********

This is another story. It has no connection in the story above.
Just want you all to loosen up and have a good smile.

Are You An Atheist?

A man went to a barbershop to have
his hair cut and his beard trimmed.
As the barber began to work,
they began to have a good conversation.
They talked about so many things
and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on
the subject of God, the barber said:
"I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?"
asked the customer.

"Well, you just have to go out in
the street to realize that God
doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists,
would there be so many sick people?
Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither
suffering nor pain.
I can't imagine loving a God who
would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment,
but didn't respond because he didn't
want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer
left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop,
he saw a man in the street with long,
stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed
beard.
He looked dirty and unkept.

The customer turned back and entered
the barber shop again and he said
to the barber:
"You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?"
asked the surprised barber.
"I am here, and I am a barber.
And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed.
"Barbers don't exist because
if they did, there would be no
people with dirty long hair
and untrimmed beards,
like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist!
What happens is, people
do not come to me."

"Exactly!"-
affirmed the customer.
"That's the point!
God, too, DOES exist!
What happens, is, people
don't go to Him
and do not look for Him.
That's why there's so much pain
and suffering in the world."

Enjoy your day everyone.

Two Sides of Everything

The world is full of temptation. There are two sides of everything and be careful because everyday, we are vulnerable & easy to be deceive. What word can you make out of this? How many? There is also a symbol for the color right?

good and evil intertwined in different colors

How about this picture? What are the words that you see in here?

Clever! What did you see? Whisper it to me.

ME reverses to YOU

And what do you see below?
teach reflects as learn
This one is quite tricky! The word TEACH reflects as LEARN

Thoughts and Insights

Whoever wrote this writing, he must be very gifted to have the freedom of the mind wandering amidst the chaos of the world around. Somehow, there is truth on this thoughts. We are only human and it is easy for us to follow temptation than the path to goodness. Everyday, we flunked! As long as we strive to do better each day, we might be in the side of Good.

I asked God to take away my habit. God said, No.
It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.
God said, No.
Patience is a by-product of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.
God said, No.
I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you.

I asked God to spare me pain.
God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own! ,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all the things that I might enjoy life.
God said, No.
I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things.

I ask God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.
May we find love and happiness around us.

A Collection of Patriotic Songs

On the Fourth of July, I will be celebrating the holiday with my family in Mississippi. There are so many scheduled activities which we will be witnessing and I am excited about it. In the morning, we will be watching the 3rd Annual Coast Watchers Convoy featuring some of the classic and current vehicles. The route of the convoy will pass by the fantastic view of the Long Beach Harbor along US Highway 90. After the parade, we will be going to a birthday party for our cousin by the Front Beach. There will be a double celebration because we will have A Salute To America which shows our respect and patriotism. In the evening, everyone in the party will be heading to the beach on foot to witness the fireworks display. It will be held at the former park site of Fort Maurepas on Front Beach. We can also watch the other fireworks display which will be shot from Deer Island. Sounds like fun right? Speaking of fun, visit Amazon MP3 on Friday, July 3, 2009 and take advantage of the MP3 "Deal of the Day". The digital album titled A Salute To America includes 30 songs for only $1.99 from the original price of $9.49. This offer is truly a good deal for a collection of Patriotic songs. The album is already available since June 30th but, the deal will be on July 3rd. Take your pick and grab a copy.
