Sweet Treats and Yummy Sweet Tooth Cravings

Today, I am in the mood to write my favorite sweet treats. As I have said before, I don't have sweet tooth. But, when I crave for something, I would go for it for few hours or days then; I am good for the rest of the week or month. This is Cheesecake and it has 14 varieties. I bought this cake at my favorite Wholesale Club: BJ's. This is Cheesecake Sampler Collection is made so delicious by Wellsley Farms. When I visit the frozen breakfast aisle at Walmart, the Toaster Strudel from Pillsbury is all I need. Oh my goodness, this goodies are really good. A 5 year old cousin introduced this goodies to me. Affordable, delicious and though it is a frozen product, the taste is like fresh from the oven. I do cook and bake in my kitchen so; when I crave of good foodies back home and there is no way that I can buy it here? I experiment and I got lucky with my Moist Banana Cake.It is so good and one of the favorite treats that my hubby loves to eat. The snacks that you see here is my afternoon snacks aboard Norwegian Sky Cruise Ship. Travel and food? Of course they go together. I remember the taste but, I don't remember the name. My coffee always has cream and it is so good. Most Americans love Cracker Barrel and wherever we may go in the US, we always find this Old Country Store and Restaurant. I love their store and if you are looking for your favorite childhood candy? You will definitely find it here. They have seasonal display of charming decors for Mardi Gras, Halloween, Fall, Christmas and more. Dining and a little shopping at Cracker Barrel? Delightful! This is a Breakfast Sampler and it has Low-Fat Vanilla Yogurt, Seasonal Fruit topped with Honey Oat Granola mix of Almonds and fresh fruit. I ordered Apple Bran Muffin and two sunny side eggs. Oh yeah, I ate a lot! It is very obvious that I love love love cheesecake huh? In Biloxi Mississippi, hubby and I dine a lot as in everyday. There are at least 9 casinos in the area and they offer unbelievable buffet in great prices. How affordable? You can dine at Hard Rock, Isle, IP, Boomtown, Treasure Bay, Palace and Beau Rivage for less than $10 and that includes seafood. Amazing huh? In Hard Rock, Isle and Beau Rivage, they have specials and when you dine during special day? You pay 50% off, how's that? Well, because I ate the regular food, I can only eat a slice of cheesecake at the end of the meal. Last but not the least, this is Teramisu from Olive Garden. This is a classic Italian dessert in creamy custard and espresso-soaked ladyfingers. Did you enjoy the yummy treats that you see in here? You should visit my Food Delights and Etcetera blog and I am sure, you will be drooling for more. Thanks for the visit guys. Mwah Mwah!

East Lake Fish Camp in Kissimmee

Every Sunday, hubby and I had routines. We go to mass at 8AM and go to a restaurant for a breakfast and it's either my treat or his. But, we have no plans which restaurant to go really. Today, as we drove down the road, we decided to go 15 minutes away from our place and we end up heading to a fish camp. The breakfast of this place is not my favorite but, if you go for the buffet on a Sunday, you can order all kinds of omellettes with your choice of cheese, vegies and spices. In the East Lake fish camp you can stay in the camp grounds with your RV's or rent in their cabins. There is a playground now which we didn't notice before and the whole area is surrounded with Oak Trees. You can ride a horse at $10 and have a boat ride and if you choose the air boat, they have that too. My friends usually dragged their boats here and have a boat ride at Lake Toho.
The whole place is nice with the feeling of in the middle of nowhere. But actually, this place is just near Disney World and just back of Orlando International Airport.
We dine in the restaurant and I saw the display of stuffed gator. This restaurant have so many stuffed animals as their main decor, a rustic ambiance and country atmosphere inside.
They have a breakfast buffet which costs $8.99/person with coffee and drinks included. Surprisingly, there were numerous people inside and lucky me, I met 4 Filipinos who dine in for breakfast too.
They came in the fish camp because they just came out from their church and one of them is a Pastor. The other man is a missionary who will soon visit the Philippines for missionary work. It was a great feeling to meeting people from my country who were very friendly. It is still a scorching day in Florida so; after the short breakfast rendezvous, we will be staying home and enjoying a relaxing Sunday! This is my entry for this weeks Travel Tuesday! Thanks for stopping by everyone.

Tony Roma's at Lee Vista

Today, we went to Tony Roma's Restaurant in Lee Vista Blvd, Orlando and had our filling lunch. Me and hubby loves to dine out just to get out from our humble condo. Just 5miles from our place, Tony's is one of our favorite restos in the city.
I love this yummylicious Potato soup and I can only eat a cup of it. Yet today, I tought I can devour a bowl, well I did but, was too full to eat my pasta.
The server asked me if spicy food is okay with me because Scampi Pasta is a bit hot! Oh Yeah!

Great Vegetarian Dishes

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of goviral. All opinions are 100% mine.

I love to eat! I can eat anything that fancy my taste buds. Back home, I can't live a day with out a hearty meat dish on my meal. That would simply gives me the energy for the whole day at work. That routine changed when we live in Mississippi. We had a free lunch in my workplace and we had variety of food to choose from. At first, I was so amazed to see all my favorite foods and sweet tooth cravings on display. Yet, as weeks passed by, I begun to pick only salads for my lunch. My choice of food works out fine because until now, I can't live a day without vegetables on my meals.

The fun part is that I can live with out meat dish in a day! I love greens and fruits which are healthy foods. I really did not make any effort to love vegetables in fact, I just love to eat "vegie". I am not a health conscious person but, eating vegetables makes me more healthy.

Fish n' Shrimp With Milk Sauce

When I am hungry, I just open the fridge and pick up foods that I wanted to eat. I asked my husband if he will treat me to Beau Rivage for lunch but since we have family coming over, he declined. My thoughts is on seafoods particular tuna fish with mushroom sauce. I am not a cook but, I cook for myself when I crave for something. So, let's experiment now. I went to the kitchen and took these ingedients:
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Sliced Tuna Fish (fillet)
  • salt to taste
  • olive oil
  • pepper to taste
  • pound of shrimp
  • milk

So, all you have to do is sautee the garlic and onions until lightly brown. Add the tuna fish, cover for 3minutes or until tuna is medium cook then, add the shrimp and milk. Let it boil until shrimp and tuna are cook. Chow!

Sonic: Summer Favorite

The weather is very different here in the US compared to the Philippines especially during April onwards. It is very hot and humid as if you can't find fresh air to breathe unless when you are on the beach area or in a forested place. Since our country is located in a tropical zone, summer is hot but never humid. Since it is very hot these days, my husband and I prefer to stay indoor, on the beach and malls. The latest food trip that I have lately is chillin with iced frozen java chiller at Sonic. I always order the Special Trio with it. The heat is bearable once I have the chiller. At home, when I am so thirsty and melting with the heat, I have something to cool me down. I made myself a homemade Coffee Chiller with my favorite macaroni salad made by Amesh.
Despite of the warm and scorcher heat, I manage to chill myself with chillers. Beating the heat so far!

Employee Appreciation

According to some employees that I talked to, Boomtown Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi have an excellent employee-management relation for so many years. In fact, this casino does not have union because any employee has the access to voice out their grievances directly to their superiors. You do not need an appointment to reach out the President and other CEO. How amazing is that right?

March 29-30,2010 marked as a special event for the workers in the casino. The management sent a "Thank You" gestures to all the employees of the casino by gracing two days of special meals.

Less than a month ago, the casino hired a new Pastry Chef named Joseph. A lady cook told me that Joseph is a Filipino and he did all this decoration which employees adored so much. It is not the greatest and it may be simple to some but, for me, he really got the Thumbs up.
It is so exciting to know that another Filipino joined Boomtown family with artistic skills in decorating.
Chow!

Tuna Sandwich

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of HealthyTuna.com. All opinions are 100% mine.

Today, my husband made a quick and easy meal using a healthy tuna recipe. If you open your pantry, I bet you have a tuna so; make use of it now. Make a healthy meal for your family by this recipe which you can prepare for less than 10 minutes. You need chopped onions, chopped fresh garlic, mayonnaise and salt to taste. Mix all ingredients together and set aside. Make a toast and spread the tuna to the toasted bread and sliced it diagonally for presentation. This is how I want my tuna sandwich and it taste very delicious.

Tuna can help fight heart disease which is one of America's number one killer diseases. For pregnant women, eating tuna regularly can help boost baby's brain and this study is scientifically proven. Fish intake of mothers during pregnancy helps the early child development of the baby in their womb. Seafood's can help sharpen an aging mind too. According to the study, total intake of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids was associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer disease. With all these scientific studies, make tuna as part of your healthy meal preparation for your family.

Pillsbury Toaster Strudel

I would like to introduce my latest favorite snack - Strudel ( parang bata lol ) . Toaster Strudel is a Pillsbury product and the flavor that I love the most is Strawberry. My little friend Emily introduced this product while I visited her in her granny's house. She is four years old and very witty. She likes me thinking that I am her playmate, LOL. We both love to watch animated and cartoon movies. Oh well, my little friend convince me to eat this strudel and I admit that it is now my favorite snack.
Easy to prepare and very delicious. Try it! I usually have this for breakfast and before bed time together with the thirst quenching sweetened iced tea. Yummy!

Camiguin and Pastel

This picture is the White Island in Camiguin which is located in Northern Mindanao in the Philippines. Camiguin is a booming tourist destination in the Philippines. Photo courtesy from skyscrapercity.com
If you love crowd, visit Camiguin Island during Lanzones Festival. It is usually done during the middle of October every year. My cousin sent me a postcard showing lanzones in it and I was so delighted. During the Holy Week, thousands of visitors walk around the 64 km-circumferential highway as a form of sacrifice in fulfillment of a vow. It is a religious event which attracts the visitors nationwide and from other countries. The place is a good retreat to be closer with family and appreciate nature. Blue water, fresh sea foods and when you return home, take Pastel with you for snacking. My friend Eleanor sent me this picture and I missed it right away. We are just lucky that the bakery Vjandep is in Cagayan de Oro City too. This delicacy is famous in Camiguin and visitors take advantage of buying it as "pasalubong" for families

Camiguin is my summer destination since childhood. I have a whole clan living in Mahinog, Camiguin Province, and I love the beach and the fruit crops in this place. I am just having a nostalgic moment over Camiguin which this Pastel came from. I miss this food.

New York Pizza at Singing River Mall

Yes! There is a place called "Singing River" in Mississippi. I was wondering why it was named that way and how it derived its name? I was amazed with the name of the place and guess what? When we drove to that place, I was enchanted with the huge hospital they have. The landscaping is really beautiful. And you know what I remembered well? It was the group of ducks or swan walking in the middle of the traffic junction and all the motorists had to stop to give way of those lovely creatures, LOL. In awe, I forgot to take a snap, hahaha.
Anyway, back to Singing River again which I would like to share with you. Singing River Mall is located in Gautier area nearby Lowe's. I always describe this mall as "SAD MALL". A year ago, I noticed that most of the business establishments were closed. You can count the cars parked in the parking lot really and that was a scary situation if you own a business there. New York Pizza on the other hand is booming! I was thrilled to see people gather in this area and dine in. Some were ordering to go. My husband loves their Pizza. I love their bread sticks.
Lanky bread sticks, huh? The taste is heaven. If I missed Olive Garden's bread sticks, this one passed my taste standard. Eat it hot, so yummy. If you happen to pass by Highway 90 in Gautier, look for Singing River Mall and find New York Pizza, food is AWESOMELY delicious. Yep!Really!

Crabbing Activity

This is the crab net that we used when we go crabbing. At the bottom of the net, we tied the regular chicken or turkey neck as bait. So far, we only caught one crab each time we pulled it up. We check every 10 minutes though. Each person is allowed to bring six crab nets for crabbing. If you use more than six crab nets, you need to get a fishing license.
The best activities if you live near the beach are fishing and crabbing. If you get lucky, you will get more than five dozens in few hours. The old house of my father-in-law was the best property so far because he got his own private Pier. He can go crabbing whenever he wants and he used "crab traps". He sold that property after Hurricane Katrina damaged the property as high as the rooftop.
The picture above is already cook blue crabs. We were lucky because we caught more than a dozen crabs in three hours using 10 crab nets. On that day, we caught huge crabs too. You need to throw the crabs back into the water if the crabs are small or if the crabs are bearing babies.
How to distinguished Male and female blue crabs? Look at their "aprons" or their abdomens. Male crabs have a long and narrow apron while mature female crabs have a wide and rounded apron. To remember, if the apron looks like the Washington Monument, the crab is male and if like the U.S. Capitol, it is female. Pretty clever huh?

My Kitchen Meme First Entry

A personal friend of mine Mommy Dharlz initiated this foodie meme in her new blog and of course I had to join in. I had known her since College days so, that was almost 20 years ago....hahaha. Wow! That long years indeed. Anyway, from then on we keep in touch and even had the same business ventures together. And now, here we are, still connected in blog land. She is a smart woman and no dull moment with her really, if she's around. A good cook and I just love her lasagna and puto/rice cake. So, check her out please. She knows that I am not a good cook. Hehehe. So, I can only share simple stuff that anyone could prepare. Like baking cookies...hehehe. I made this today just for this entry....hmm. It is a Pillsburry brand which I love too.Just few pieces for the three of us here. My hubby and FIL like cookies and I just found out that I like eating 'em too. LOL.
This is still the salted fish which Rio sent me. I think this is a dilis. I just fried it and added a brown sugar and pepper. Got a filipino foodie again.
Thanks for reading. Nothing special right? But, if you live far away from your country, this food taste like heaven.

Fried Salted Fish

This is a Filipino food called tuyo or dried and salted whole fish. My teenager nephew here was shocked to see the heads and for him its Ewww.LOL. Anyway, this food supposedly is not good for those who have a "high blood" pressure because it is salty. This is good to eat with white rice and home-made rice coffee during breakfast. Good for snacking too. Salted fish and boiled camote or sweet potato, salted fish and saging na saba or banana plantain.
Not all Filipinos love salted fish though. When you cook the salted fish, the smell is not pleasant. In the provinces, this food is common especially for breakfast and it is easy to prepare. The smell will not linger inside the house too because their kitchen has big windows. Keeping the air flow, in and out the house. Most of the houses in the province have no airconditioning unit. Why? No need for aircondition at all because the weather in the province is cool, fresh and clean.
I call this food as the food for the "common tao" in the Philippines. The smell might not be pleasant for others but for me, it smells good and appetizing. Thanks to Rio again for sending me this gift of food.

Yummy Sunday Entry

This will be my first entry for Yummy Sunday. Bogie, my fellow Cagay-anon invited me twice. I hope, I am doing it correctly. Today, my sister-in-law celebrated her birthday in her father's house so, I took few pictures of the food on the table.Shrimp Dish is the only food we prepare and the rest were brought by the other members of the family. This is on my plate, LOL...I ate all of this...nah, I shared this with my husband.
I forgot to set the date of the camera that is why it is showing 2005. Sorry, I am too sleepy to edit it now. Aunt Myra bake this cake and it taste so delicious. During Christmas, Thanksgiving and Fourth of July, she always initiate a party for the whole clan. I am so excited for every event. Filipinos love the sweets, she had those in one area. Yummy!
Another cake she bake. This is like a chiffon cake and I like it a lot.
I know, it doesn't look extra special hahaha. This is GUMBO (soup rich in flavor) . If you live in Alabama, Texas, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi, this food is truly one of a kind. This is made up of shrimp, okra, celery, bell peppers, onion, and many more. When you eat gumbo, you need to have white rice, the main component of gumbo.
