Fresh Tomatoes from the Garden

We have few tomato plants in the garden and when we saw ripe ones, we picked them up and use them in the kitchen. I love the cherry tomatoes because they are so sweet and smells good too. Tomatoes benefit the heart because it contain the carotene lycopene which is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants. It is believed that cooked tomatoes have been found to help prevent prostate cancer. The lycopene in tomatoes improves the skin's ability to protect against harmful UV rays. Tomatoes also protects against sunburn and help keeping the skin looking youthful. According to the study, tomato varieties are available with double the normal vitamin C, 40 times normal vitamin A and two to four times the normal amount of lycopene.

Watermelons and Summer Time

When we were living in Mississippi, summer time is beach hopping and short road trips to Grand Bay, Alabama to buy fruits especially water melons. This is $5 to $10 each and when it's really in season, we buy this only for a $1.I really do not know which is sweeter but, we just bought 2 varieties of watermelons. The place where we bought these fruits is located along the busy street in this area. There were few drivers stopped by and check on their produce. We were able to buy worth $9 for two big water melons and three cantaloupe. That is a good deal right? When we sliced the water melon, we were amazed to see a Yellow variety which they call Yellow Crimson Watermelon. This cantaloupe is 3 for $5 and my sister in law bought 3 and a basket of peaches which was $12.What is summer without these thirst-quenching fruits right?According to Wikipedia, there are more than 1200 varieties of watermelon with flesh that are red, white, yellow and orange. I have no idea that there are yellow flesh. I thought all watermelons are red *wink*. Now, white and orange? Hmmm...got to find them.

Strawberry Smoothie

Have some strawberries and make some strawberry smoothie on a hot and muggy day.
I am going to the grocery later and plan to buy fruits. It looks like summer here in Florida and cold smoothies are good chillers for me. Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Employee Appreciation

According to some employees that I talked to, Boomtown Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi have an excellent employee-management relation for so many years. In fact, this casino does not have union because any employee has the access to voice out their grievances directly to their superiors. You do not need an appointment to reach out the President and other CEO. How amazing is that right?

March 29-30,2010 marked as a special event for the workers in the casino. The management sent a "Thank You" gestures to all the employees of the casino by gracing two days of special meals.

Less than a month ago, the casino hired a new Pastry Chef named Joseph. A lady cook told me that Joseph is a Filipino and he did all this decoration which employees adored so much. It is not the greatest and it may be simple to some but, for me, he really got the Thumbs up.
It is so exciting to know that another Filipino joined Boomtown family with artistic skills in decorating.
