Fort Matanzas in Saint Augustine Florida

When you visit Florida, you will hear people recommending this place. Saint Augustine is popular for those who loves historic places and the beach. Part of the things that you do in this place is a short visit to Fort Matanzas.Matanzas inlet was the scene of crucial events in Spanish colonial history. The massacre of French soldiers here in 1565 was Spain's opening move in establishing a colony in Florida. The construction of Fort Matanzas in 1740-1742 was Spain's last effort to ward off British encroachments on St.Augustine.- National Monument Florida (National Park Service) US Department of the Interior.I used my time by taking pictures as we were waiting for the boat which was still on the Fort. The crossing of the Matanzas inlet is just short minutes and it's FREE.
My husband commented that this Fort is smaller than the Spanish Fort in the Ship Island in Mississippi. Looking at the picture, it is indeed tiny but, played a good defense in the war history between the British invasion. The place is only 50 ft on each side and 30 ft tower and built with a local shell stone called Coquina. It is not the usual stone wall that we see in our homes. Lime for the mortar was made by burning oyster shells.A foundation of close-set pine pilings driven deep into the marshy ground thus, stabilized the Fort Matanzas. This is the boat dock area, the surrounding view is truly worth seeing for! We probably visited the place for more than an hour. The Fort is a small place, I wonder how lonely it was for soldiers who were assigned here. Here's the Anatomy of the Fort which comprises of the following: Parapet wall, white stucco which once covered the walls, powder magazine location, ladder (removable), lookout on the tower roof and two storey watchtower with canons defending the inlet. Therefore, the Fort is a small place with the Chimney, observation deck, powder magazine area, officer's quarter, firearm loopholes, soldier's quarters and a sentry box area.We saw this information as we head to the boat dock. Here is the map of the Fort showing a wide range of history and important dates of significance.
This is the bulletin board for visitors who wanted to explore the park and the fort. me and hubby had a wonderful time in this place. You should visit Fort Matanzas in Saint Augustine Florida.
This is my entry for this weeks Travel Tuesday Meme.

Naturalization Eligibility

My most googled topic in this blog is about immigration. I lost track of writing the latest info about it since I got busy with my job. But, here I am inspired to share my knowledge about certain common questions. Am I eligible to become a US Citizen?

Take note of the following:

If you are at least 18 years old and a Permanent Resident of the United States and have been issued a Permanent Resident Card with the following status:

Have been a Permanent Resident for less than three years? NOPE! You are not eligible to apply for a naturalization. It is strictly THREE YEARS. Meaning, less than three years NOT QUALIFIED!

*If you are my reader, you know that I am talking about my case : with permanent residence card, married to a US citizen. Other case, I did talk about that in my other posts. Feel free to search it in all my blogs. Thanks for stopping by.

Just A Game We Play

I had fun times when we live in Mississippi for almost two years because my husband has a huge family there. The younger generation loves to play GAMES either in a console or online and they drag me to their activities. The teenagers are the ones who introduce me to many Dress up Games and all of us in the family loves to compete how long can we hold on to our position. It was just a game we play and we had fun memories of that. My father-in-law had this wifi ready 50 inch HD TV and everyone of us gathered in the living room to play. Playing games bring us closer and we had a good time. Every family should have a Quality bonding time and this is just one of those.

Casey Anthony: Not Guilty

Casey Anthony is Not Guilty on Murder! What a jaw-dropping verdict! Most of us probably are emotional today but, life has to go on! There are so many crimes in this world that ended without justice and that includes CAYLEE MARIE ANTHONY, a 2 year old at the time of death! We will NEVER know how she died, how she suffered on her last day and how she beg for HELP at that moment! She's HELPLESS, she's only 2 years old! But, this we know: Caylee Anthony was tossed in the swamp, Caylee died in her shirt with "BIG TROUBLE" sign on it, Caylee's remain was left EATEN by ANIMALS in the woods, Caylee's body was badly decomposed and hid in the swamp, not meant to be found! Amidst all the search to find Caylee in 2008, people all over the country responded to the call of Amber Alert. Where is Caylee? The mom would say, oh she's kidnapped by the nanny, Zenaida Gonzalez! Zenaida is not a nanny! Zenaida don't know Caylee or Casey! Casey Anthony ruined the lives of Zenaida! Casey gets away with lesser penalty of this accusation! NOT GUILTY! NO tangible proof! When Casey was afraid of the death penalty, she found another LIES! She accused her father of molesting her and not only that, accused her brother too! NOT GUILTY! Okay, she blamed everybody but not her! NOT GUILTY, we got it! The father who said "if I could switch places with you, I would do it!" How could someone willing to give up everything and that includes the death of her baby, breaking the relationship of her family FOR WHAT? Now, she is FREE! Legally FREE! She will enjoy a better LIFE! I salute to the defense team, Atty. Baez! The jury believe all the DOUBTS you instill into the minds of Jury! "I save a LIFE today," Baez said and what about the life of Caylee? This is not about Casey. This is about finding the killer of Caylee! What happen to Caylee? If this is the right JUSTICE then, HAILEY CUMMINGS is another Floridian baby who will experience the same FATE!

Business Credit Cards

Some people can't establish a good credit history. There are so many factors that affect the decision when acquiring Business Credit Cards. The need to have credit history is very important because without it, doubts will eventually be formulated. A concern especially when you apply for any type of loan, they will dig to your credit history if you are a good payer. If you have bad credit history, there is a hope for that. There are companies who offer any form of loans, credit cards, lines of credit, and more. The percentage might be higher but, it sure would help you create a good history. When you have it, you can go beyond what you need. Life would be easier by then because companies will trust you in all your necessary dealings.

The Freedom

Happy FREEDOM day everyone! How's your celebration? I bet you had a wonderful time with your family and friends! We went to Lake Eola today to watch the fireworks. It was interesting and fun! I heard the patriotic music and it reminded me of how grateful I am for this freedom! Now, let us all be reminded of the Principles of American Democracy: 1. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land.
2. The Constitution: sets up the government, defines the government and protects basic rights of Americans.
3. The idea of self-government is in the first three words of the Constitution. We The People.
4. An amendment is a change and an addition to the Constitution.
5. The first ten amendments to the Constitution is the Bill of Rights.
6. The freedom from the First Amendment: speech , religion , assembly , press , petition the government
7. There are 27 amendments.
8. The Declaration of Independence: announced our independence (from Great Britain) , declared our independence (from Great Britain) and said that the United States is free (from Great Britain)
9. Rights in the Declaration of Independence: life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.
10. The freedom of religion means: You can practice any religion, or not practice a religion.
11. The economic system in the United States are capitalist economy and market economy.
12. The “rule of law” means: Everyone must follow the law, Leaders must obey the law and Government must obey the law.

At the Courthouse: Casey Anthony Murder Trial

Today, we watched the Closing Arguments of the Casey Anthony Murder Trial on TV. It was pretty intense while Atty Jeff Ashton from the prosecution team lay the facts to the Jury for 77 minutes. Each team will be given 4 hours of closing arguments so, this will gonna take whole day today. They can comeback tomorrow for Jury deliberation. But, if they can't finish the closing arguments today, they will comeback tomorrow and continue.Hubby and I wanted to see the Courthouse to see the reaction of the crowd there. Sure enough, people are with in the vicinity hoping to get a slot for tomorrow's session. Today is Sunday but, the courthouse has a crowd of observers and media people. I saw Judge Alex of Fox Channel, a show who handle cases in small claims court. He was having lunch in a pizza place where we are. He was seated two tables from where we are. There were local media personality too and the whole place is overwhelming. The Orange County Courthouse is located in Orange Avenue in Downtown Orlando. The whole complex has a 23-level courthouse tower with two five-story office buildings for the State Attorney and Public Defender. There is a car parking facility with 1,500 capacity. Today, we park nearby the courthouse just across the street and it's FREE parking every Sunday.
The High-volume courts and also Clerk of the Courts as well as the jury assembly area are located in the tower's four-story base. There is a special purpose courtroom on the 23rd level. I just knew this today too that there are dedicated elevators that carry the Judges, Inmates and the public to the courtrooms. The Judges travel from their chambers or secure basement parking and the inmates are shuttled from a basement holding area. The public can access from the main lobby. This is pretty interesting and safe for everybody! Anyway, outside the courtroom there were people who are debating about casey's behaviour just to be on TV. Some looks smart and educated but, mostly I saw weird people who are trying to be righteous! Well, in few days more, verdict will be serve. Where there will be JUSTICE FOR CAYLEE?

Fort Matanzas at Saint Augustine

We went to Saint Augustine, Florida for our Wedding Anniversary celebration this year and we had a blast! I was on the observation deck of Fort Matanzas when I took these pictures. During the Spanish Colonial era, Matanzas Inlet as shown here contributed an important piece of history such as the massacre of French Soldiers in 1565. The Fort Matanzas was build in 1740-1742 to ward off British advances on Saint Augustine. The boat in the picture is the boat that we rode for FREE from the mainland to the Fort. The land shown on the picture below is called Anastasia Island.Anyway, the stone shown here is part of the Fort Matanzas Observation Deck. It is made of Coquina which is a local shellstone. This is a very small place 50 feet on each side with powder magazine room, officer's quarters, soldier's quarters, there is a firearm loopholes and cistern.
Fort Matanzas National Monument has a Nature Trail too but, we did not go there anymore. I would love to visit this place and do the trail. It would be fun and exciting!
