Fun Time with PowerMyLearning

This is a sponsored post written and edited by AmiableAmy on behalf of PowerMyLearning. All opinions and photos (except the logo) are 100% mine.

As a former teacher, I believe children acquire knowledge and learn the most when they are having fun. For that reason, I am very happy and excited to share to all you mommies and daddies out there about the great and modern way of fun learning that would help any parent or teacher in their strategy to re-enforce children's learning potential.

I was introduced to a Website which has an innovative approach; and a computer based learning program called PowerMyLearning. I am delighted to tell you that this learning program is from K2 to 12 and so far, the highest learning technique that I have seen online.

The line of subjects they offered are similar to what is taught in schools like Math, Science, Literacy, Social Studies, Technology and Language as well as Arts and Music. Mostly, they are in a form of game activities that a child would not even think that he or she is learning some lessons. It sharpens their cognitive learning and reasoning as well.
Believe me, I have tried it with Chloe and she loves it! Like most of the children in this generation, Chloe knows how to operate a computer but of course, with an adult supervision. I told her to logged in and once she is in PowerMyLearning site, she was excited to check the featured games.  We focused on K2 and she has all the freedom to choose whatever activity she fancies.

Favorite PowerMyLearning Educational Games of Chloe
Geology: Dinosaur Fossils
This is a read along guide for kids. Since Chloe has a curious mind about Dinosaurs, as she browsed and read the facts about them, she has full of excitement. Every time she reads new things, she gained knowledge then; she would turn her head to mommy and giggled. She is having fun! It was very impressive to see her wanting to learn more.
Science: Solid and Liquid Activity
She loves this game and she was experimenting thru the pictures. It was fascinating for her to learn what will happen to a solid when it is heated and a liquid when frozen. As she learns the experiments, she would react in surprising manner. I can see that she was delighted to learn.
Reading
The follow along read aloud version of "A Snowy Day Story" is a big hit for Chloe. She loves to read.  To sum it up, in the eyes of Chloe, PowerMyLearning has been her favorite Website for the last 5 days now and I know, this will remain her favorite.  Based on my observation, she has learned a lot from PowerMyLearning. By the way, you can create a free account in PowerMyLearning Website so; you might as well check it out!

First Day of Kingdom Rock

The Kingdom Rock is a very interesting strategy to teach the Christian children about God. There is a Daily Bible Point which is carefully integrated into each day's activities for an unforgettable faith formation. Day 1, the children were able to know by heart that "God's love helps us ... stand strong!". The photo below is Day 1 scenario where the Lady (head of the whole kingdom (*v*) was leading the kingdom for a prayer, introducing Truman, the Bible Body and so much more. Some crews were still busy finalizing the total numbers of children and volunteers. Safety for everyone was given the top priority.

The photo below was when the children started to learn the song, they sing and dance, and had a great time participating.

During Snack time, the children went to the King's Kitchen and before eating, they wiped their hands with using the wet wipes. The Lady in the King's Kitchen show them how to make a heart shape before eating their sandwiches. Teaching how God loves us. It was pretty interesting.

After the King's Kitchen, they went to the Chadders Theater and the children receives the Truman Bible Memory Buddy. They wear the Bible Buddy as a necklace. The Pre-school children were pretty behave listening attentively to the story of Chadder, the Chipmunk.

Children heads back to the Pre-School Kingdom and do the crafts. First day, we let them color and design their crown. Finally, the games for the day were Sheep Herding, Follow the Shepherd and Where's the Heart. That was fun!

Fanfare Finale for Day 1 was interesting. We all went back to the dome and see the video who is caught in action and starring for the day. A volunteer photographer was taking photos i every kingdom. The Lady at the dome was showing the children an experiment of balloons. Children saw which balloon stands strong!

First Day of Kingdom Rock #VBS at Divine Mercy Catholic Academy

This was the scenario of the first day of Kingdom Rock #VBS at the Divine Mercy Catholic Academy in Merritt Island. There were a lot of student volunteers and good number of adults. On the first day, I was on the registration table taking the names of the participants for checking in. We started on time and when everyone went to their respective groups, I went back to my pre-school kingdom where we have 18 cute and adorable little ones.

First hour of the day was a bit unorganized but, pretty much adjusted the flow in an hour. Everything was set up accordingly, KUDOS to the organizer especially the Director of the Religious Education Ms Mary Frances Coburn. That's her wearing green t-shirt at the middle of the photos.

On the first day, the children were being introduced of the Bible Buddy, Truman which is a bulldog. The children were taught that "God's love helps us ... stand strong."

I was in-charge of the crafts and there were 4 crafts to choose from. We made the crown, have the kids color and wear them. Questions like, "How does God loves us? and "How does God show his love to you? " were being asked to the little ones and they answered great. They were very attentive!

The lead volunteer is Ms Ginny who was in-charge of the story telling while the in-charge of the games was Ms Terri. Both were very enthusiastic and they sure can handle the group after all, they have little ones of their own. They were very motherly, very patient and they tried their best to inculcate what's to be learned for the day.

On the next day ... kids came back. It means one thing, the children loves to learn the word of God in "Kingdom Rock". Up next... photos on the second day. Thanks for stopping by.

The #VBS Week

I devoted my time last week for #VBS and I had no regret waking up so early and preparing the crafts for the kids. It was a change of routine for me at least; I have things to do on schedule. There were about 18 pre-school children who sign up and belong in our group. There were 3 adults in our group and 6 volunteer students. They probably are in the elementary and junior high. Yep my bad, I never get the chance to ask them personally. Each one of them had to look after three kids in the group. We were in-charge of the crafts, storytelling and games.

In the Philippines while I was teaching the first graders, I have more than 50 students in the class and no one is assisting me. Although, I have some parents who volunteered to clean the classroom and maintain the immediate surrounding but whole day, the kids are under my supervisory. I never find it hard.

Here, it is different and I guess, teachers here are more relaxed and can focus on their lessons more. They have assistant teacher per room of 15 children. I like it! Anyway, the photo above is when they have games. I will go over this week about what we did during the #VBS. Thanks for always visiting my blog. See you again.

On #VBS

I was a bit tired this week but, I truly had fun with the kids in our #VBS. We have about 18 kids in our group but we also have 6 students in elementary who volunteered as crew leaders. Each one of them were assigned to 3 kids. There are 3 adults in our group and I was assigned to crafts, Miss Terri for games and Miss Ginny for bible story.

The kids had fun with the aqua booster craft. Everyday, they love the games and they are so enthusiastic sharing what they learn for the day. The pre-schoolers are pretty attentive with the bible stories because their answers are on the right track. Now, I have change of hearts, I think I am going back to teaching.

Classroom is All Set for #VBS

Last Thursday, our group for #VBS (Vacation Bible School) made our final meet up to set up the classroom. We were assigned to some activities and I got the crafts which will be done in the classroom. One adult is in-charge for the games which will be done outdoor; one for the songs which will be done in every activity and one adult is in-charge for story telling. I am really excited. We were expecting 12 children in our group but, we are all set for 20.

We set up the room and put some posters to make the room ideal for this activity. We also set up the castle where kids can play in between the activities.

Now, after 5 years, this will be my second time handling children in a classroom. I am truly excited. The first time was when I was a substitute teacher in a daycare and was assigned in one year old and twos. This time it will be different because I am a volunteer for this one week event. Our group will be handling 4 year olds and most of them are boys. I heard there are active boys who signed up, LOL. I am confident though that all of us will be having fun.

Fun Mealtime with Funbites

Listen up parents! Are you "fed up" on doing the same stuff many times each day and feeling so helpless about it? Some things have to be that way like ironing clothes, doing the laundry, cooking and making the house neat and tidy. That is part of parental role, nurturing a family and taking care of them. I am not referring to that because somehow, technology and innovation makes the job done easy for all of those right?

Okay now, meal time with your kids, how and what it is like? Do you spend time cutting their food into bite size? After they are done eating, you are now exhausted and forgot that you have to eat too. Awww... that is typical parenting and it's for the love of the children. I salute you for that but, I can suggest a good product that will somehow ease your helplessness away.

I was given an opportunity to review a product from Funbites.com and let me tell you, I had fun cutting food into a bite size portion when my niece and nephews came over for a visit. No sweat at all! How fun is that? You can now prep the food before meals so that mealtime would be fun time. I can assure you that your kids will love eating the food on their plate especially when you cut fruits and vegetables for them. Kids love different shapes and it will be a learning time too. A good strategy to introduce shapes and counting numbers on mealtime. One slight press and you will have a dozen of bite size food already. Awesome right? To purchase this product, check out their Website. For more details of fun bites, please like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter.

I received a product mentioned above for free. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I used personally and believe will be good for my readers. I am not compensated with this post. All opinions are fully my own.

Are you looking for a computer game that sharpens your child’s appreciation of music? There is a game that I can suggest to you. Check out the magical adventure called Nutcracker Music Game for it challenges your child through interactive participation game play. Did you know that this game received the following awards: Parents' Choice Gold Award, NAPPA Gold Award and Parenting Seal of Approval? Those awards would mean one thing ...that this game is popular to the parents.
I was lucky that I was given the chance to review about this game. I was provided with a code and the installation was seamless. When download was complete, I was able to play the game right away. The game is easy to navigate especially for children and the voice instructions are crystal clear. The game is all about saving the Nutcracker by earning nine golden keys through a series of musical games and activities. It aims to teach the children about the differences between sounds; exercise their memory skills, and increase their music vocabulary.
This game is truly Educational for it features musical games, puzzles, riddles, and animated Encyclopedia of Musical Instruments. It is really fun to play. The child will also learn the Tchaikovsky’s biography, the Nutcracker story, the History of the Nutcracker ballet, music trivia and so much more. Lilly the Ladybug From Zoobies.com

As a blogger, one of the activities that I did this month was sending a pitch letter to companies. I made 15 pitch letters and all companies replied positive. I was overwhelmed! First product that arrived on our doorstep was from Zoobies.com and boy, I am like a child. I was thrilled and loving their stuff toy. What was surprising for me was their stuff toys have a dual purpose. It is a toy and a blanket. Moms and dads, you should get this toy for your children. See the face of my niece? She was so happy isn't she? She lives in U.K. and because she is doing well in school, I thought Lily the Ladybug is a good companion when she is doing a homework.

I am a child at heart and a stuff toy like this truly melts my heart. Look at the face of Lily the Ladybug, isn't it cute? Much as I wanted to keep this for myself, there is a pretty face in UK who is waiting for Lily's arrival hehehe. I am so glad that I send Lily to her because look at that angelic face, I can almost hear her giggling and laughing. You bring so much joy Lily the ladybug (wink).

Would I recommend this item? Sure! If you want to buy any product at Zoobies.com, you will get a 20% discount if you use the code: Parenthood. Check out my review and giveaway post of Lily the Ladybug: HERE. Thanks for stopping by.

Christmas Gifts

Christmas is less than three weeks and I am really excited. I have been shopping online and every time the doorbell rang, I have a package. In fact, I received two big boxes from FedEx today. The big box is my Christmas gift for hubby but, he was very curious and asked me if he can open it. Well, I let him open it and he is already using the gift that I bought for him. Now, I have to find another gift for him and I am hoping that it will arrive before Christmas.

Anyway, I am still shopping for items which are inexpensive but, nice to give as presents. I saw a website called TeaCollection.com and this online shop has a selection of holiday gifts for less than $25. I like the leg warmers and the knit hat which I think my niece would love to have for Christmas. My nephew is a smart kid and I also find an educational gift for him. He loves board games as well as toys that he can manipulate and learn. I think the CitiBlocs are the best gift that I can give for him and I am sure he will love it.

Happy Birthday Kuya

When I was in Elementary, I attended the best Public School in the city. I can remember my first grade teacher, Mrs. Canedo who patiently taught us how to read. Mrs. Balarrias was my second grade teacher who taught me how to write in cursive form. On my third grade, I can't remember her name but, I remember her face and her personality being so gentle. My fourth grade teacher, Mrs. de la Cruz who was very charming. Then, I transferred school on my Intermediate level. Here is my nephew, studying in the same school where my brother and I once studied for 4 years and 6 years. My nephew is the second generation in the family, studying in the same school. When he took the exam for first grade, he rank number 2 among hundreds of pupils and he immediately chosen as one of the pupils for Science class. Now on his third grade, he was active in class as well as extra curricular activities.
We have no Science Class in our time, that was in the late 70's but, we do have first section in each level. The accomplishment of my nephew being in the Science class already brings pride to us. My nephew is active but, sometimes he complains that he had no time to play. He loves school and he likes to study but, since this is the generation of technology, he is also addicted to computer games. That is the biggest distraction to his studies.
Today is his birthday and his wish is to have a McDonalds birthday party at school and a birthday party at home for family and friends. Not bad so; his wish was granted.
These pictures were taken by his mom during their ethnic presentation at school.
Happy Birthday Kuya and be a good boy always. Education is important so; aim high!

Casey Anthony Murder Trial

It seemed to be a lot for Casey Anthony as she cried and felt sick as she watched the evidence presented to the jury. The pictures of the remains of the little girl Caylee and the disturbing description of the condition of the skull must be too hard to handle for the accused mother. At least Casey Anthony is showing more reaction/emotion today. Far different from what she tried to project everyday. Casey Anthony "tot mom" can be seen smiling, laughing and even showed no emotion especially that moment when her mother was called on the witness stand, so vulnerable, crying upon seeing the picture of Caylees bed and teddy bear while Casey just had this stoic-face!
Today's trial session was done early because Casey Anthony was ill. Judge Belvin Perry announced the recess past three in the afternoon. From what I saw on Live TV, Casey was shaking, pale and all the time her head bow down. I just want justice for Caylee Anthony! The accused mother show no remorse, I don't feel sorry for her.
If you want to read a summary about Casey Anthony Murder Case, check out this page of wiki:

Barbie Dolls and Toy Cars

Back home, my niece requested another set of Barbie Doll. She specifically made mention this: no curly haired barbie:-). I asked why since both of us had wavy hair style. She said curly haired barbies are hard to fix and she requested more accessories too. Children have simple comforts to make them happy. This is hard to ignore right? :-)
My nephew and I shared the same interest------>CARS! I found this in BJ's Wholesale Club for only $15.00 for 50 pcs. It's truly a good deal! My nephew was so excited to see it on cam and he can't wait.
Well, my eldest nephew who is 10 years old loves books and Reader's Digest. I know, he is the type who loves to read Encyclopedia than coloring books, LOL. He loves to learn and I am so proud of him.

Happy Halloween

Don't scare yourself tonight my friends...BOO! Hehehe! This is a decoration in John and Garby's front door. It will gonna say something when someone is near him. Cool decor really! Here are some pictures of the other Halloween decorations.
BOO! LOL! Happy Halloween everyone! Last year, my Halloween celebration was a blast! I attended two parties in just few streets away from our place. I would say that my Halloween experience in Orlando was really exciting and fun.
I enjoyed taking pictures of the guests who are present in that party. These pictures were taken on Halloween night for "trick or treat" on the neighborhood.
The kids were with parents and they are in groups. I took pictures of the children who are having unique costumes. See how nice they are!
Their parents are watching few feet away. They even brought camera because when they saw other kids with nice cosumes, they ask them to take a picture with their kids.
NICE!
One of the girls says, "hey, what about me?" and so I took a click...LOL.
There were few teenagers who went for trick or treat but, these three are lovely.

Slippers For Kids at School

I had known Mr. Joel Lariba, the principal of Palalan Elementary School since 1996. We were assigned in the farthest Public Elementary School in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines located in the Southwest District called Besigan Elementary School. When Mr. Lariba told me that it ached his heart to see the students coming to school almost barefoot because part of the slippers had a big hole already, I believe him right away.
Six compassionate bloggers/individual responded to my blog post and they are:
  • Theresa Stuart of USA
  • Ronald Saunders of USA
  • Rose Buenconsejo of Cebu City, Philippines
  • Ade Andriyani of Indonesia
  • Nancy Jho of USA
  • Yena Eras of Manila, Philippines
They are the people who believe that the money donated will really reach out to the concern students. It may be small amount but $1 can already buy at least 2 slippers. That is the BIG difference. Thank you for the trust and for showing compassion to these students.
The effort you made will not make a big impact to the world but, for the eyes of the recipient at that moment, it means everything. I remembered a moment when I was assigned as a third grade teacher in Besigan Elementary School, few of my students wear their slippers inside the classroom. They come to school barefoot. I asked why and one of the kids said, " I do not want my slippers to get dirty". My point here is that, slippers might be an ordinary thing for us but, for those who have nothing in possession, slippers are something to treasure.
Look at the SMILE of this kid, precious right?
The parents of these children can afford to buy slippers but, food for the table is a priority. Therefore, children come to school wearing worn out slippers.
Thanks to the teachers for taking the time of buying 77 pairs of slippers. I know it was an added burden yet, you do not complain.
Another child with a happy smile here.
155 children in this school but, only 77 were listed as having a worn out slippers. On December, I am planning to solicit something for their Christmas Party. This time, its for every children in this school. They have 155 plus 22 kindergarten so; 177 children to prepare for Christmas.
Whatever you can donate, I will be very happy to accept as mediator. Rest assured that the whole amount will be sent to them as is.
Look at their environment, they have the fantastic view of the mountain. Their classroom is well ventilated and they do not need an air conditioned room. They are so blessed in many ways right?
