Types of Cooking Oil

I was reading some of the wall updates of my friends in one of the social media sites that I frequently visited. One of my friends was posting about her grocery lists which include vegetables and cooking oil. One of her friends commented that the canola oil she mentioned was not at all healthy then, the thread became a long discussion about cooking oil.

It opened my eyes as to how knowledgeable they were about these things. I said to myself, I should educate myself as well. My husband and I are using vegetable and olive oils in the kitchen because as far as I know, it is good for the heart. I really did not research about the good benefits of oils. I only rely on what most health conscious people said and used in their kitchen.

I have been reading the guide for the different types of cooking oil for few hours now and been comparing some of it. I didn't know that some oils have distinctive taste. I made some further research and found out that extra virgin oil is good for salad dressing. That olive oil is commonly used in cooking, cosmetics, soaps and as a fuel for traditional oil lamp.

I also learn that canola oil is low in saturated fat and has a beneficial omega-3 fatty acid profile. So far, canola oil is recognized by many health professional organizations and that the absence of saturated fats in the oil content makes canola oil a healthy food. That's what my friend was pointing out in her wall update.

Anyway, there was a study about sunflower oil. The study shows that infants receiving a daily skin treatment of sunflower oil were 41% less likely to develop infections in the hospital. That's amazing to know. But, when oils have the good benefits, negative health effects are lurking behind it. High consumption is not good at all.

The Homemade Cookie

I am not fond of eating cookies back home. In fact, I rather ate crackers and my favorites were Skyflakes and the other brand I forgot the name. My husband loves cookies, milk, cheese and hoghead cheese. Those are his daily food cravings. And I have NOTHING LOL! Anyway, I can eat anything if I am hungry. This is a home baked cookie which my hubby made. There is no shape this time as you can see. Hurriedly done! Just noticed lately that I am now a cookie monster, the female version LOL! I told my husband to make it well done. A brown cookie for me is tastier because it is crunchy. My favorite brand is Pillsbury. What is your favorite cookie brand?

Stir Fry Catfish

Well, I am not a good cook. What I have here are onions, green and red pepper seasoned with salt and powdered garlic. I use butter and not oil but, I guess I love the taste more when I use vegetable oil.
Then, I added the catfish. Just my way of cooking though. The steam will cooked the catfish itself. Covered and after 10 minutes, I mixed the catfish with the sauce in it and covered until it is cooked.
This is just my dessert ... a banana with ice cream on top.
Fried Catfish. Put a little salt and pepper and cook this in a butter. Yummy!

Filipino Foods

These are typical Filipino foods or " Lutong Pinoy" that I missed so much. I learn to cook some of it just to satisfy my craving which my hubby and my father-in-law loves so much also thank God.LOL. I remember when I was assigned in a remote school and we have to stay in that place for the whole weekdays and I was forced/assigned to cook for lunch. It was a disaster always...LOL, I really thought I can't cook. But, eventually, my perseverance to learn to cook paid off. Maggie cube is a good helper in the kitchen (LOL) and watching cooking show helped a lot too.
