Wandering Animals

Our neighborhood will never ran out of awesome sight to see as well as great looking animals wandering around the area. We were at Rusty's Seafood and Oyster Bar in Cape Canaveral having late lunch and these Pelicans were snooping around. Actually, these birds are always there waiting for food that tourists gave them. It is discourage though and if you happen to be here, in this restaurant, don't feed the birds please.

From Cape Canaveral to our place, there are two body of waters: Indian River and Banana River. Manatees are lurking underneath the murky waters. They are big but, harmless.

Now, we seldom see the black snakes in our area and they are not poisonous but, I just don't like snakes, period. I took this photo while we were doing the Children's activity in a private school. Well, kids were not there yet when this snake showed up. Kids were not afraid and they wanted to see it but, it was gone.

While we were at NASA -Kennedy Space Center premises, we saw this wild Turkey wandering on the side of the road. Hubby said, if I can catch it then, thanksgiving will be fun, LOL.

The Spider on the Car

This is one of the spooky sights that I saw on Halloween. If a person with arachnophobia saw this, they will faint to death probably.  I also saw a house decorated with giant spiders. Imagine the whole house with giant spiders crawling from the top down to the front yard. Perhaps not a good sight huh?

We were in Merritt Island when we saw this car. Everyone around us started staring at this car and grinning. The driver of this car is really creative, inspired by Halloween celebration. I remember last year, I saw a bloody hand hanging underneath the car. I had to look at twice to see if it's real or not.

 
I wonder if the spider will still be there if he park his car in a parking lot for more than an hour. Do you think someone will be interested to steal it?

A Snake at the School Courtyard Ground

During the Kingdom Rock #VBS where I took charge of the crafts for Pre-School, one of the parent volunteer asked me to assist her in prepping for the games at the courtyard ground. As I was about to scatter the accessories for the game, this creepy thing is what I saw. Oh my goodness! I run away the moment I saw it!

I know that they are not poisonous. A friend in Alabama like this type of snake in his property because they ate rat so; he called this snake "rat snake". One of the parent volunteers heard me say it but thought I was saying Rattle Snake. She corrected and said it's not a rattle snake, it's a black snake. LOL. The kids and I were looking at her and said yes, it is a black snake and it is harmless. I think she keep insisting that I said "rattle snake" LOL. Oh, diction ...  diction ... diction... I am not even slang, LOL.

The African Grey

Did you know that African Grey has amazing ability to reason and has the talent for clearly mimicking human speech? That is why; I want to have one. When I was in college, my aunt has a Mynah bird and he was hilarious. He was taught with crazy words to scare people away. It mimic my voice too and sometimes, it will just say something that makes me laugh. It will mimic my laughter too then, I get mad. LOL.

Anyway, this is an African Grey and typically pick up on words and even the sounds very quickly. The African Greys have the reputation for repeating everything they hear so; if you own one, be careful with everything you say in front of the bird.

African Grey is one of the most intelligent parrot species and because they have high IQ's, it means that their owners must give more time to teach them. This is just a baby and doesn't talk yet. He is very observant though and doesn't like me at all LOL.

This is my second visit and he totally recognize me. He's not aloft this time.

He was just looking at me. The African Grey Parrot usually found in the rainforest of West and Central Africa. According to the experts, African Grey is one of the most intelligent birds in the world. They feed on nuts, seeds, fruits, and leafy food. They are gentle in nature.

I started checking about their life span and was glad to know that African Grey is a long-lived bird.  They can live up to 50-60 years according to World Parrot Trust lists. In The Guinness Book of World Records, they have a record listed for 72 years, the longest-lived specimen for the species.

Bird on the Birdbath

It's a rainy Tuesday here in our place so; hubby and I just stay at home. We spent the day doing household chores ... and baking. Not interesting huh? Anyway, despite the rain, hubby and I still hears the birds chirping at the frontyard so; we look out the window and saw a bird on the birdbath.

 

The bird stays there for a long time. Aside from this bird, we also saw cardinals and doves by the birdbath. Such a pretty bird right?

Funny Squirrel Up on the Post

Every morning, this squirrel goes up to the post and wait for prey. Possible prey is the woodpecker which frequent this spot. I had my coffee at the gazebo when I saw this funny squirrel up on the post at the backyard. Funny because this squirrel does not move for minutes especially when birds are flying nearby. The strategy didn't work though LOL.

The squirrel went down after waiting for so long and the prey didn't come. Poor squirrel!

Enjoyable Visit in Downtown Disney in Orlando

When you visit Orlando, there are so many ways to explore Disney World. You don't have to go to the theme parks. Having Bird or Fish as Pets

I always wanted to have a pet but; my preference would be either bird or fish. They are so tiny, colorful, cute and of course harmless. When hubby and I happen to pass by a pet shop, I would always go to the area of fish tanks. I like angel fish especially the emperor and annularis. Their colors are amazing so; even if they are expensive pets, it might be worth it. Flame angelfish and flame hawkish are also beautiful and I love their deep brilliant red body. Of course, I will always buy a clown fish because it is pretty, adorable and the price is really affordable.

I have no idea if I am good in taking care of pets and keeping aquarium fish but, I have been contemplating to keep fish in the aquarium as a hobby. I like having fish as my pet and when I am ready to buy them, I will make sure that I won't hurt them. Honestly, I do not see so much selection of pet birds in the pet shop here most especially parrots. I like their playful nature, beautiful colors and they can learn to talk too. It would be awesome to teach the parrot how to talk so; there will be inter-action between us. Of course, they are not harmless and tiny so; it's easy to take care of them too.

Just yesterday, we went to a pet shop nearby and I almost want to buy a 5.5 gallon aquarium starter kit. I know it is very tiny but, if I can maintain a small aquarium and keep it clean then, I can go on and buy a bigger aquarium soon enough. I do not want to be overwhelmed with taking care of the fish, feeding it and maintain the cleanliness of the aquarium for I do not have an extra time for that.

Animals on the Streets

We went to our friend's house in Kissimmee to get the donated clothes for flood victims in Cagayan de Oro City. Along the streets in their nice neighborhood, we saw ducks, peacocks and these birds just walking in the middle of the road not minding the traffic. All cars had to stop to give way for them who are taking their time.These birds are protected by the city so; no one can harm them. Pretty amazing huh? Well, many animals are protected in the US. Birds can fly freely and they thrive in numbers. Sometimes, it's annoying to some home owners especially the ducks and peacocks that made a mess on their yard. Anyway, they are nice to see but, if there are too many in the area, I can understand that it's truly annoying for them.

Adorable Dog

I remember that I took this picture in an awkward position. During the Mardi Gras parade, dogs participated the event and they are in different sizes. This particular dog reminds me of Queenie, a dog that became my friend and a playmate when I was in second grade.

This dog is huge and so many people tried to pet her. I can't go near her so, I used the zoom in to make it look like that I was closer to where she was. I was just feeling the nostalgia and the fun childhood memories.

Snapping Turtle on the Hallway

One morning, I openned the door to take our newspaper and immediately I was startled! This poor creature wanders the hallway of our condo unit. You can tell that it was so old and lost, LOL. It was really huge and we just left it there and in few minutes, it was gone. I thought they are slow? LOL!Here in Florida, anything can happen! No matter where you live, you can always see animals wanders around.So far, I saw wild deer, big snakes and in pair, rabbits, squirrels, ducks and crocs along the highway. But, this is the first time that I have a close encounter of a snapping turtle in our unit. Usually, I saw them walking along the road and some were not lucky, they got run down by cars.
We tried to feed the snapping turtle and we left it there. As long as it is not a snake or a bear, I wouldn't mind the animals living around us. Well, I just wanted to let you know about my experience that almost gives me a heart attack! LOL!

Sneaky Snake

No matter how small a snake it is, it still looks scary. As you can see, our pathway is clean and the lawn is well-manicured. Twice a week, the gardeners cut the grass, trim the bushes and the whole area is well taken care of but, look at this visitor roaming around. It is a tiny snake but, I just can't pass by it. I am so scared that it will jump on me. I don't know if it's poisonous or not but, I won't go near it.
I used the zoom function of my cell phone camera and took this picture. It looks scary still! After few minutes, it's gone and I don't know where it is heading to. Anyway, black snakes were wandering in our backyard probably it's cooler. As long as it will not go inside our place, we are fine with that.

Pet Gets 12M Inheritance

This relationship between the billionaire Leona Helmsley and Trouble Helmsley is one of the most fascinating story that I read in the yahoo news today. The Real Estate Tycoon Helmsley listed her pet puppy named Trouble to inherit a staggering 12 Million dollars after her death and part of her will, Trouble will be buried next to her in the Mausoleum.While most of us have a hard time finding our luck, Trouble found the best friend who treasured it's lifetime like a million dollar friend. Good for Trouble! Some people "este" animals are born to be lucky and not trouble at all! This is not the first time that I heard someone left her inheritance to a pet. Back in Mississippi, an employee in Boomtown Casino gave a portion of her life insurance to her pet also:-) Amazing!

Sneaky Snake

This week is just a whirlwind of scary event. Scary because it happened three times. I don't like snakes and they give me chills even by just looking at them. Two days ago, hubby and I were talking with our neighbor on this pathway (picture below). Suddenly, a long huge snake came out from the bushes and bumped on the feet of my hubby! The three of us were stunned! It was a split second and there the snake was off across the other side of the bushes! Then, me and our neighbor were screaming at the top of our lungs! Our neighbor is black and he is a tough guy but, he was as scared as I am. Meanwhile, hubby was trying to figure it out were it came from. When we looked at the corner of our building, the second snake was crawling away from us! That was real scary and it vanished!This morning, I thought hubby was just joking when he said there was a baby snake inside our bedroom. It came out from our water heater room. I don't want it to vanished inside the house and eventually becomes bigger and will hurt us. So, I made a wise decision. Well, I won't elaborate what happened to that baby snake. Hubby and I decided to buy a Snake-Away to keep the snake away from our territory.When we arrived home, I sprinkle this "snake away thingy" and told my hubby to shake the bushes because we don't know where the daddy snake was, it might be lurking in there. After I was almost done, I saw the snake skin in one corner of the building. Hubby called our neighbor again and he came down to see the snake skin. Then, as I was taking the picture of the snake skin, the snake (picture above) just fall from the bushes. OMG! The second snake was there still! The snake wanted to get away from the side where I sprinkled the snake away thingy. It works! The three of us can't believe that we saw the snake three times! I took these pictures so our neighbors will now believe that there were really snakes on our area.

Rodent:Squirrel

Squirrel is cute. This rodent belongs to the family of Sciuridae which includes tree squirrels, ground squirrels, chipmunks, marmots (including woodchucks), flying squirrels, and prairie dogs.This animal breed once or twice a year, and give birth after three to six weeks. The young are born naked, toothless, helpless, and blind. Ground dwelling squirrels are generally social animals that is why this particular squirrel is not afraid of me. It even poses fro me, LOL!It is living in well-developed colonies, but the tree-dwelling species are more solitary.
This is a ground squirrel who is not afraid of people definitely.

Turtle

Look what I found in our backyard early this morning? We live in a National Park and friendly animals like the turtles, rabbits and deers are frequently seen on our backyard. Turtles are protected animals so we can't just make it as a pet. When we saw them around, we feed them and when they are done, they leave.

See the crack on it's back? The turtle must be injured from somewhere and this specific turtle frequent our yard.

Mimic Insect

After my work, my husband took me to McDonalds for breakfast. I always order McCafe frappe caramel and two apple pies which is not a typical breakfast really. Anyway, when I got out from the van, I noticed this tiny beautiful creature on our window. My husband tried to keep it away but, its sticky feet stuck on the glass. We actually left the insect there, hoping it will fly away.

When we came back, it is still there amidst the 91 degree heat. I do not know if this is a planthopper and still wearing its leaf mimic body. Isn't it adorable?

After so many attemps, the insect just fell on the pavement and moved slowly to the grass where it belongs.

Mimic insects are amazing, don't you think? If they are vulnerable, they mimic their environment such as this insect.

Jellyfish Sting

I just remember my first encounter of jellyfish. I was swimming in the beautiful beach of DAKAK, Philippines when I saw some jellyfish around me. I was tempted to touch it but, my friend warned me not to. I was thankful because I didn't know that jellyfish can sting. If in case you accidentally hurt by this creature, take note of the following:

For stings on or around the eyes, dampen a towel with vinegar and dab around the eyes, but avoid the eyeballs. Salt water may also be used if vinegar is unavailable. Do not use fresh water if the sting occurred in salt water, because a change in tonicity can release additional venom. Avoid rubbing the wound, or using alcohol, spirits, ammonia, or urine which also encourage the release of venom.

Clearing the area of jelly, tentacles, and wetness stops further nematocyst firing. Shaving the affected skin with a knife edge, safety razor, or credit card can remove remaining nematocysts.

Beyond initial first aid, antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) can control skin irritation (pruritus). To remove the venom in the skin, apply a paste of baking soda and water and a cloth covering on the sting. If possible, reapply paste every 15–20 minutes. Hairy Dog

I just took the picture of this dog because I remember HAPPY. Happy is a tiny dog of Barbara, a close friend who live in Orlando but she passed away last December. I am so worried with Happy because she is very close to Barbara. One time, I wanted to put a leash on her and she was crying and hiding at the back of Barbara asking her not to put on her leash. I was so fascinated with that incident because she thought that I will get her away from Barbara. I just told Happy that I will accompany her to pee at the backyard and she gladly came to me. When I open the door and return the leash on the side, she was so glad. As if telling me that she will behaved at the backyard. Well, we play the ball for few minutes and we return inside the house. I miss her. She is now taken care of by Barbara's friend. I know she is in good hands.

The couple was so sad and I can feel the pain on their eyes as they move on to the other building. Out of curiosity, I read the sign and it says, "Lost cat with white paws" print on it.
